Anita
Anita K. Atwal is senior legal counsel with expertise in workplace law, governance, and ethics. She is widely respected as a trusted, independent neutral and is frequently appointed to investigate and resolve complex and sensitive matters. Anita provides services as an investigator, mediator, and advisor, and is known for her ability to navigate challenging workplace, governance, and ethics issues. Anita also has significant expertise in professional discipline matters.
Raised in a farming family in British Columbia’s Lower Mainland, Anita learned early the values of hard work, accountability, and resilience. Before pursuing law, she gained hands-on experience running a successful business, grounding her legal practice in a strong understanding of organizational realities. She began her legal career in 2006 at a large regional Vancouver firm, where she developed a broad civil litigation practice advising clients in local government, policing, labour and employment, insurance, and commercial litigation. In 2017, Anita joined a boutique labour, employment, and human rights firm, where she focused exclusively on workplace law. She worked with employees, employers and unions.
Drawing on more than 15 years of experience in private practice, governance, and business, Anita founded Anita Atwal Law in 2022. The firm reflects her commitment to legal excellence, exceptional client service, and thoughtful, creative problem-solving.
In 2023, Anita served as Interim Director of Human Rights at Simon Fraser University. She currently serves as Integrity Commissioner for the City of Maple Ridge, Ethics Commissioner for Legal Aid BC, and as an ad hoc Integrity Commissioner for other municipalities.
Anita is deeply engaged in the legal community and is a strong advocate for access to justice. She has served as a supervising lawyer with Everyone Legal Clinic, an Access Pro Bono initiative, and as Co-Chair of the Canadian Bar Association of BC’s Workplace Investigations Subsection. She is also the longest-serving former President and Director of the South Asian Bar Association of British Columbia.
In recognition of her leadership and commitment to equity, Anita received the Canadian Bar Association, BC Branch’s Equality and Diversity Award and the Surrey Board of Trade’s Woman in Business Award in 2024.
Anita currently serves on the Board of the Fraser Health Authority and chairs its Human Resources and Governance Committee. She is a sought-after speaker and regularly presents and delivers training on workplace law, investigations, mediation, and governance.
Anita is fluent in Punjabi and provides legal services in Punjabi when requested by clients or counsel.
Outside of her practice, Anita can often be found on the sidelines of a football field or hockey rink cheering on her children. A devoted Seahawks fan, she may also be spotted at a tailgate during the NFL season.

Rosie
Rosie is a lawyer and investigator with a practice focused on professional discipline, labour, and workplace investigations. She advises and represents employers, unions, and professionals in disciplinary and regulatory matters, and is known for delivering clear, practical guidance through sensitive processes. Rosie has experience conducting and advising on workplace investigations, including matters involving allegations of misconduct, bullying, harassment, and breaches of professional standards. She assists clients navigating internal discipline processes and brings a strong understanding of procedural fairness and administrative law principles.
Earlier in her career, Rosie practiced employment and civil litigation, representing clients before the Supreme Court and Provincial Courts of British Columbia, as well as various administrative tribunals. She began her legal career at a large national firm in Vancouver and later joined a boutique employment, human rights, and labour law firm. She has worked with Anita since 2019 and joined Anita Atwal Law in 2022, shortly after its inception. Rosie has presented at CLEBC’s Employment Law Conference and looks forward to future speaking engagements.
Rosie developed a strong sense of teamwork and accountability through competitive volleyball. She played for BC’s provincial volleyball team before attending the University of British Columbia, where she was a member of the women’s varsity volleyball team and helped secure three national championships. Rosie earned her Bachelor of Arts (Sociology) at UBC and completed her law degree at the University of Alberta. A proud UBC Thunderbird, she remains actively involved in sport.
Outside of her legal practice, Rosie serves as a Director of Volleyball BC. She has a keen interest in competitive sport and promoting equal and safe access to sport. Rosie is an avid Green Bay Packers fan and enjoys travelling and cross-stitching.

Sophie
Sophie Toor is a workplace lawyer practising in employment, labour, professional discipline, and human rights law. She advises private and public sector employers, boards, and unions on a broad range of workplace and governance matters, and has represented clients before administrative tribunals and at all levels of court in British Columbia.
Sophie has experience conducting complex workplace investigations, drafting specialized policies, and providing strategic advice on human rights issues. She is known for delivering practical, solution-oriented counsel, with strengths in conflict management, creative problem-solving, and supporting clients with difficult human rights issues. Sophie also brings strong technical skills to her practice, enabling her to efficiently manage matters involving large data sets, complex records, and technical evidence.
Originally from Ontario, Sophie moved to British Columbia to attend the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia, where she was involved with Pro Bono Students Canada. She began her legal career at a leading workplace law firm in downtown Vancouver and continues to focus her practice on assisting clients with a wide range of workplace-related issues.
Sophie grew up playing competitive sports, including ice hockey and rowing, which taught her the value of hard work, teamwork, and fairness. She brings these principles to her legal practice through a collaborative, forward-thinking approach focused on serving our clients. Outside of work, Sophie enjoys exploring British Columbia’s parks and spending time with her dog.

Maddie
Maddie is a legal administrative assistant with experience in civil litigation. Maddie's legal career began at a mid-size law firm in downtown Vancouver where she assisted various teams throughout her tenure.
Maddie grew up in South Surrey and is eager to assist her local community. Having older siblings, she learned from a young age that hard work and treating people fairly was essential to success. In her spare time, Maddie can be found reading, spending time with her family and her cat, Oliver, and learning new songs on her ukulele.
